Shakal patrolled back and forth in front of the main gate into Gelu Metal Urbs. Not that he was visible. He had ordered the floodlights to be put out for a little while so he could stand outside the gate, unseen on the ground.
Currently, Shakal looked much like the shadow the gate. In fact, he was the shadow of the gate, yet it moved side to side as if being chased by a light.
He stopped, scanning the area, before resuming his patrol. It had just been a small animal. It was fine.
------------------------------------------------
Three hours later, Shakal was back inside the gates in the dark underneath the main tower, where he ordered the floodlights back on. This was a quiet night, which Shakal was thankful for. At least, tonight.

Grog watched as the shadow guarded the gate. He was glad it was night. Nothing had happened for three hours and when the shadow walked away from the gate he followed silently behind. He nearly fell to the ground as the floodlights suddenly turned on. "Gra! Warn me next time you decide to turn them things on!" Grog said as he landed on the ground, "Nearly thought it was day time. Oi! Caption, a silent night eh? I don't suppose you have anything planned for the rest of the night?" Grog said to the caption of the guards.
Grog, being a gargoyal, hated that fact that he turned to stone during the day, but found it amusing to see the rections of everyone when they see that a statue is missing from where it was during the day. Grog useally found a roost to site on during dusk, right before the sun rises. He never knew what went on during the day.

Yil protect us... Shakal thought as he turned to face Grog. "Tell me why I should warn you? I thought gargoyle's were only affected by light during daylight hours?" Shakal's voice had the same texture as granite scraping across a blackboard, and the same effect to the surrounding air as lead falling through it. He morphed his body into an unrecognisable blob briefly, just to remind himself that he could, before reforming into his original form. "Grog," Shakal said, sounding almost weary. "My job is my life. When I am not at work, I feed and rest. A silent night is a blessing, in my opinion." If he had a mouth, he would have smirked.
Being a Shade wasn't all bad. It was just those days during high summer where shadow was few and far between. Then he had to lay in wait in a building or cave, sometimes under a rock, until night came and he could find shelter elsewhere.

Grog made a stony sigh, "Well, Gargoyles do have better sight in the dark then in the light. the light can be rather blinding to a garoyle if one isn't careful." HE said to Shakal. "Well, if you got nothing to do, then I guess I should just find a roost for me to sit on while I wait for my sleep to come." He said to Shakel. He sighed that stony sigh again.
Gargoyles are able to see in the dark about as well as a human can see in the day. A bright light could blind a gargoyle, but its unlikely that there stone like eyes won't heal. Grog hasn't seen many gargoyles that are blind.

And where you see in the dark, I am the dark. "Very well, Grog." Shakal whistled, though 'whistle' makes it sound soft. It was more the sound of gale force winds. The lights dimmed. "That might help you rest. We need you for tomorrow. Busy night." It wasn't that Shakal didn't like Grog. It was just Shakal had difficulty trusting anything that was not Shade, although Grog did live during the night, literally as well.
"Grog, a question." Shakal said matter-of-factly.

Grog nodded as the lights dimmed and his vision had slowly come back. "Ah, thanks sir." He said in response to the lights dimming. When Shakal said "Grog, a question" Grog turned towards the Shade. "What is it sir?" He asked the Shade. Even though he doubted the Shade likd being called 'Sir' it was his fault for being a high ranked officer.

"Ho are Gargoyle's born? The answer to that has always evaded me. And skip the conception part, I would rather not know." Shakal was serious as well. He loved to learn new things, on any subject, and Gargoyles were one of his many interests. Basically inanimate rocks that somewhere along the way gained a mind. Or, at least, that was as far as Shakal new it.

Grog seemed to laugh, it was funny how the birth of a gargoyle was so interesting to so many people. He stretched his wings, "Well, Some Gargoyles are born through the normal means, some gargoyles lay eggs to give birth to Gargoyles, they don't seem to live as long as one created as I was." He said to Shakel. He stretched his arms and legs, "Gargoyles that are created like I was, are carved out of stone, and yes, magic is used to give us life. Though the form of magic is nearly lost now. The life giving magic that some people where able to use is what created Gargoyles that are as strong and as cunning as I. For those of us who are created through magic's means, do not age. I could be 1000 years old, though I am not." Grog laughed again at the end of his explanation of how gargoyles are created.

Shakal nodded as Grog explained, picking up the interesting parts. "Hmm..." Shakal muttered, becoming a shapeless lump as he began to think. "It couldnt have been Light or Dark magic, or I would have sensed it, unless it was very, very old." Shakal became solid again. Eggs?, He said to himself. That explains some things... "So how old are you then, Grog? One of the first or a later generation?" He said out loud.
